Roll grooving forms the groove by displacing material, while cut grooving removes material. These preparation methods are not automatically interchangeable. Pipe material, wall thickness and coupling requirements determine which preparation is suitable.
Inspection planning should cover the specified groove profile, pipe dimensions and relevant material records. Where pressure testing or application-specific approvals are required, the purchasing documents should define their scope. A generic certificate should not be interpreted as approval for every pipe-and-coupling combination.
